He was a three-time All-American of the Year in 2008 and the ACC Player. Simpson played on the victorious 2007 Walker Cup team. Simpson won the championship by three strokes over George McNeill, carding a last round of 67 on 21 August 2011.
Simpson won the U.S. Open at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, on 17 June 2012. Simpson was nominated by Tom Watson as one of his three captains’ picks for the 2014 Ryder Cup team, completing with a record of 0–1–1 in the two games he participated in.
