Footballer Cahil joined to the Everton for a fee of 1.5 million of the 2004-05 seasons. He scored the third goal in a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa and dedicated the goal to the victims of the Victorian bushfires 2009 on 15 February.
After, Cahil started with Chinese Super League club Hangzhou Greentown on 22 February 2016. He scored a penalty on his Hangzhou Greentown debut in a 2-1 victory against Changchun Yatai on 6 March 2016. And then, he signed a three-year deal with A-League club Melbourne City team on 11 August 2016.
And he left Melbourne City later not getting enough time in the match, in a bid for more game time at the club on 6 December 2017.

At the summer Olympics, he helped Australia reach the quarter-final stage of the men’s football tournament. And he played in the FIFA World Cup 2018, in Australia’s first game against Japan team. He scored one goal and he became the first man of the match of the Australian World Cup.

Footballer Cahill scored three goals during the World Cup 2014 qualification. On 13 June 2014, he scored Australia’s only goal in their opening group team against Chile.
And then, in the AFC Asian Cup 2015, Cahill was selected under manager Ange Postecoglou as a part of his squad. he was chosen to start against Jordan. He was part of the team who beat Honduras 3-1 on aggregate to reach the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia on 15 November.
