Takumi Minamino is an international Japanese professional footballer. He has played in the Monaco club and the Japan national football team. Usually, his playing position is an Attacking Midfielder.

In 2012, he started his club career at J. League Division club 1 Cerezo Osaka. Minamino started in the team that reached the final of the AFC Asian Cup 2019, making his senior international career debut for Japan in 2015.

He was born on 16th January 1995 and his birthplace is Izumisano, Japan. His height is 5 feet 9 inches or 1.75m. He earned the number thirteen jerseys for the upcoming season after breaking into the first squad in 2013.

Against Albirex Niigata, Cerezo Osaka won 1–0, and Minamino was the first player from the club’s youth system to play in a season opener.

Takumi Minamino Club, Goal, and International Career

Minamino established two assists in the following two league games before scoring his first goal of the season in a 2–1 victory against Oita Trinita in the Emperor’s Cup, and he continued to shine throughout March.

In a 2–0 victory over Oita Trinita, he scored the next match. Minamino then scored three more goals in the 2013 season, including two against Urawa Red Diamonds in the final game of the season.

He appeared in 38 games and scored eight goals throughout the 2013 season. Minamino was named the best newcomer in the J league in 2013 after winning the award previously held by Takashi Usami (2010), Hiroki Sakai (2011), and Gaku Shibasaki (2012). He also got a new deal with the club, extending his contract.

In all competitions, he had played 42 times and scored eight goals. He scored seven league goals in 62 J.League Division 1 appearances for Cerezo Osaka. After that, several European clubs showed interest in signing Minamino, and he was linked with a departure from the club.

 

Red Bull Salzburg

In a 2–0 victory against Wiener Neustadt on February 13, 2015, Minamino made his Red Bull Salzburg debut, starting a game in the left wing and being replaced in the 64th minute.

Minamino had a successful start to the 2015-2016 season, scoring his first goal of the season in a 7-0 victory over Deutschlandsberger SC in the opening round of the Austrian Cup.

Minamino scored his first goal of the season in a 3–1 victory against Vorwärts Steyr in the first round of the Austrian Cup at the beginning of the 2016-17 season.

Minamino began his season well in 2017–18, scoring three goals against Hibernians, Deutschlandsberger SC, and Wolfsberger AC in three separate tournaments.

Minamino agreed to a deal extension with the team at the beginning of February 2017, keeping him until 2021. On March 18, 2018, he added a brace against Austria Wien to his three other league goals for the club.

Minamino began the new season with a four-goal performance, which kicked off well for him. He scored two goals in a 6–2 victory against Genk in a UEFA Champions League encounter.

 

Liverpool

After activating Minamino’s £7.25 million release clause, Liverpool agreed to a deal to sign him from Salzburg in January 2020 in December 2019.

In preparation for his January 2020 transfer to the club, he had a Liverpool medical on December 18, 2019. Minamino made his Liverpool debut in the FA Cup victory against Everton on January 5, 2020. Minamino scored the opening goal in a 7–0 away victory against Crystal Palace on December 19th, bringing in his first league goal for Liverpool.

Minamino scored his first goal for Liverpool in a 4–0 home victory against Arsenal on November 20, 2021, at Anfield. In the EFL Cup against Leicester City on December 22, 2021, Minamino scored the last-minute equalizer.

Minamino scored two goals in the fifth round of the FA Cup against Liverpool, taking them to the quarter-finals, on February 6, 2022.

 

Join to Monaco

Minamino signed a four-year deal worth a set €15 million (£12.9 million) and €3 million (£2.6 million) in incentives with Monaco on June 28, 2022.

International and FIFA 22 career

On 13 October 2015, Minamino made his Japan national team debut in a 1-1 draw against Iran, coming on as a substitute in the 87th minute.

On September 11, 2018, he scored his first goal for Japan in a 3–0 victory against Costa Rica.

Minamino was named one of the 23 members of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup squad by Japan in December 2018. He was selected for the 2016 Summer Olympics Japan U-23 national team in August 2016.

When he converted a penalty against Panama in November 2020, he scored the game’s lone goal.

He was called up to the Japanese senior squad in the 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar as a midfielder.
