He struck out a career-high 11 batters in 7 innings as the Yankees won 3–2 over the Tampa Bay Rays, on 13 April 2017.
Severino pitched eight shutout battings against the Kansas City Royals, on 24 May 2017.
He ended his first half on a high note though, outstanding out 10 batters over 7 innings of three-run ball against the Milwaukee Brewers on 8 July 2017.
The Yankees named Severino their Opening Day starter, on 17 March 2018. Severino pitched a complete game for the first time in his MLB major league career, shutting out the Astros 4–0. Severino allowed zero runs on 2 May 2018, against the Houston Astros. He started the American League Wild Card Game in 2018.
