She beat the top 50 Julia Görges there but fell to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova afterward, in September 2013.
She didn’t perform well when she returned to the WTA Tour but made it to the third round of the French Open 2014.
She upset world No. 1 Angelique Kerber in the first round of the Australian Open 2015 but fell to Eugenie Bouchard in the quarterfinals after failing to advance further than the second round.
Begu and Maria Irigoyen finished as the Rio Open runner-ups in February 2015. She advanced to her first Premier Mandatory quarterfinal at the Madrid Open.
She reached the first Premier 5 quarterfinal of the 2015 Canadian Open, and then alongside Monica Niculescu in Wuhan.
