He won his first-ever ATP singles title at the Winston-Salem Open 2016, defeating neighbor Roberto Bautista Agut in August 2016.
Carreño Busta reached his 1st ATP 500 final round at the Rio Open 2017, saving a match point against rising teen Casper Ruud en route in 2017.
