Holtby made the jump to the professional Hockey team player in 2009. ON 5 November 2010, he made his NHL debut against the Boston Bruins at the Verizon Center. And he recorded his first NHL shutout, stopping 22 shots in a 5-0 win over the Edmonton Oilers on 9 March 2011.
Then, he started in his second career game 7 on 12 May. After, he agreed to a two-year $3.7 million deal extension with the Capitals on 25 February 2013.
Holtby shut-out the Boston Bruins, 3-0 and having already shut-out Boston in the hit before two games in the 2014-15 seasons on 8 April 2015.
He completed 3rd in Conn Smythe Trophy voting as playoff MYP, with Golden Knights Marc-Andre Fleury goaltender, behind only teammates Alexander Ovechkin and Penguins
