Mikey Garcia boxing career and news
Mikey beat the veteran Tomas Villa in the first round, to victory by T.K.O. the USBA Featherweight Championship, in April 2010.
Garcia’s first major step up in opposition came against the WBO Featherweight winner on January 19, 2013, and Ring No. 1 ranked featherweight Orlando Salido.
It was proclaimed that talks were underway on May 25, 2017, for a fight between Garcia in Brooklyn and world champion Adrien Broner on July 29, 2017, at Barclays Center.
He took to social media and called out four-weight world winner Miguel Cotto in early September 2017 for a fight in December, perhaps being Cotto’s final fight.
The IBF wrote to Garcia, giving him until March 22 to decide whether to keep his IBF title. On March 12, 2018, at light-welterweight, Ivan Baranchyk lined up next.
The IBF ordered Garcia to defend his newly-won tour on July 31, 2018, against mandatory challenger Richard Commey, with a contract to be grasped on August 30, 2018.
His next fight
Garcia returned to the ring in Frisco, Texas, later a layoff of almost a year. He faced former two-division world champion, Jessie Vargas, at welterweight, on February 29, 2020.
On October 16, 2021, after a layoff of almost twenty months since his last fight, he returned to the ring to face European super-lightweight winner Sandor Martin in Fresno, California.
