Indian Premier League 2020 — What Do We Know so Far?

Indian Premier League 2020 — What Do We Know so Far?

March 4, 2020 By Live Sports

Indian Premier League is, according to many fans, the most important cricket team competition in the world. The IPL has become a brand so popular that even people outside the Indian subcontinent enjoy watching cricket matches and rooting for the teams that are part of the league. Indian Premier League 2020 overview details and transfer news and also more things has given below.

Since the IPL usually takes place in March and April, it’s completely natural to already feel excited about it, especially if you’re a cricket lover. During these two months, the entire country of India is focused on the competition, as some of the best players in the world take part in it.

Let’s take a quick overview of some of the previous IPLs and discuss what lays ahead of us in the upcoming India Premier League competition (aka IPL 13 or Vivo IPL).

IPL 12 Recap — What Happened Last Year?

Last Indian Premier League attracted more people than ever. Every cricket news website focused on the games, their analyses, and even predictions regarding outcomes.

The eight teams that were part of the competition (and that are going to be part of IPL 13 as well) were the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals, Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings, and Mumbai Indians.

The league stage of the tournament saw teams play against one another, with the four best ones going to the playoffs round. The teams that made it through were the Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The Mumbai Indians faced the Chennai Super Kings in a preliminary game and made their way to the finals. The Chennai Super Kings then had to face the Delhi Capitals who won against the Sunrisers. The Super Kings won and met with the Mumbai Indians once again in the finals, only to lose for the second time against the same team.

Therefore, Mumbai managed to win by one run and lifted the IPL 12 trophy. This is their fourth IPL title, making them the most successful team in the history of the league. The Chennai Super Kings are the second most successful team, with a total of three IPL trophies.

In other words, the two teams had an essential task in the finals — to take the fourth title and prove that they are the best ever.

Nevertheless, the IPL is still very young, and there will be plenty of chances for other teams to take a shot at the title in the future.

Speaking of the future, let’s see what we can expect from the upcoming IPL.

Indian Premier League 2020 or IPL 13 — What to Expect?

The 2020 Indian Premier League will be the 13th consecutive team cricket competition in India. The number of participants will stay the same as last year. In fact, the same eight teams will return to cricket fields in India to try to become the next IPL champion.

The official starting date is March 29, and the last game is planned for May 24. That means we will get two months of intense cricket action with a total of 60 matches scheduled.

The only thing that’s going to be different is that some teams will have slightly different squads. The most important transfer was the one where Ravichandran Aswin, who had the role of the captain at the Kings XI Punjab, was transferred to the Delhi Capitals.

Some of the most prominent names among the players who were released are Rob Uthappa, Yuvraj Singh, Jaydev Unadkat, and Chris Lynn. Additional 12 transfers were conducted between the teams in the latest transfer window.

Some teams also decided to buy new players who weren’t in the IPL before. The most expensive purchase was made by the Kolkata Knight Riders, as the team bought Pat Cummins for ₹15.5 crore, which is roughly $2.2 million. The Chennai Super Kings also have a new player in their lines and they were ready to pay a hefty sum for him. Piyush Chawla is now a member of the Chennai, and his price was ₹6.75 crore, approximately $950,000.

Everything is ready for the new season of the IPL, as teams have been actively preparing for it. It isn’t easy to make any predictions about the possible winner of the IPL 13. That’s why we should first focus on the group phase of the competition and enjoy high-quality cricket for two months. Once the playoffs begin, it will be easier to determine which team has the best shot at winning the 2020 title.
