The Cheltenham Festival is the most prestigious jumps meeting in the world. Once again in March, all the leading National Hunt horses will descend on the racecourse in Gloucestershire for the four-day event. Honeysuckle – Champion Hurdle
Honeysuckle established herself as the best 2m hurdler in her division when she won the 2021 Champion Hurdle. Henry De Bromhead’s star mare prevailed by just over six lengths in the feature race on day one of the meetings last year.
Since her victory in the premier 2m hurdle contest, she has added two further Grade One victories to her record. She scored in the Punchestown Champion Hurdle back in March and recently won the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle on her seasonal reappearance.
After her success at Fairyhouse, she is now odds-on at 8/11 to defend her crown in the Champion Hurdle.
The Irish runner is likely to feature in the Irish Champion Hurdle, in what will be her final run before she lines up at Cheltenham.
Constitutional Hill – Supreme Novices’ Hurdle
One of the most exciting newcomers to appear this season has been Constitutional Hill. He arrived at Nicky Henderson’s yard last summer and, since then, has produced two very impressive performances.
The Seven Barrows runner proved his class at the highest level when he won the Grade One Tolworth Novices’ Hurdle at Sandown at the start of this year. He could be the one they all have to beat in the opening race of the festival – the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.
Tiger Roll – Cross Country Chase
Tiger Roll is one of the most popular National Hunt horses today. The two-time Grand National winner has won at five different Cheltenham Festival meetings, including on three occasions in the Cross Country Chase.
At the age of 12, Tiger Roll is unlikely to be at his peak anymore. That said, this horse has achieved so much in the sport that he can never be written off.
If victorious in the most unique race of the week, he is likely to receive a huge reception from the crowd at the Gloucestershire racecourse. It would also help him add to his incredible legacy on the track.
A Plus Tard – Cheltenham Gold Cup
Last year’s Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up A Plus Tard will get another shot at the Blue Riband event at the Cheltenham Festival in March. He finished behind his stablemate Minella Indo last year, but based on the form of the two horses this season, he has an excellent chance of going one place better.
Rachael Blackmore has yet to declare which horse she will ride in the race. She opted for A Plus Tard in 2021, and after the way, he blew the field away in the Grade One Betfair Chase, she is likely to do the same again. You may get here the world’s Best sporting events 2022 with date details.
