On 11 October 2008, he made his NHL debut against the San Jose Sharks. And he scored his first goal against the Colorado Avalanche on 20 October. In 2010-11 seasons, the Kings’ media voted Doughty the team’s outstanding for the third consecutive.
In 2014, Doughty won his second Stanley Cup against the New York Rangers. He was selected to participate in the NHL All-Star Game in 2017 later leading the team’s defense in goals during the 2016-17 seasons.

After, he became the youngest player to represent Canada in a major best-on-best match since Eric Lindros participated in the Canada Cup 1991.
He won the gold medal as Canada defeated the US in the final game. And he was a star at the Winter Olympics 2014, where Canada defended its gold medal.
