Shelvey became Charlton’s youngest-ever goal scorer, with a strike with Norwich City of the FA Cup third round. He signed a one-year deal extension until 2012 in 2009 on 9 September. In May 2010, he signed for Liverpool an initial fee of 1.7 million EUR.
He joined the Championship club Blackpool on 30 September 2011 on loan. Shelvey scored his first senior goal for the club career in a 5-1 win in the FA Cup third round with Oldham Athletic on 6 January 2012.
He signed a four-year deal with Swansea City, for a transfer fee of 5 million EUR on 3 July 2013. In the club, he scored his first goal in a 2-2 draw with the Liverpool, club on 16 September 2013. Also, he caught Liverpool’s Emre Can with his arm during a 4-1 away defeat, on 29 December.
Then, he joined the Newcastle United club for a five-and-half-year deal on 12 January 2016 and transfer fee 12 million EUR. Footballer Shelvey was called up for the England national squad for the FIFA World Cup qualification 2014 matches with San Marino and Poland team.
Also, Shelvey was selected to start for England for the first time in a UEFA Euro 2016 match with San Marino on 5 September 2015.
