He played on the Challenge Tour 2017 where he had his 2nd professional victory, the Hainan Open.
Van Rooyen was runner-up in the Joburg Open 2017, three strokes behind Shubhankar Sharma, in December 2017.
He won his first European Tour at the Scandinavian Invitation 2019 at Hills Golf & Sports Club, external Gothenburg, Sweden, on 25 August 2019.
In February 2020, after he tied for third at the WGC-Mexico Championship, he advanced to a career on the Official World Golf Ranking 2020.
