Dries club and international career
Footballer Mertens started his first career in Gent team in 2005-07. And he joined the AGOVV football club in 2007. He has played in the AGOVV club up to 2009 and scored 28 goals in 73 matches.
In March 2009, he agreed to a contract with AGOVV and officially Utrecht team completed the starting of Mertens at the start of the 2009-10 Eredivisie for a fee of 600,000.
Then he was transferred to PSV team in 2011 up to 2013. His transfer fee of 13 million that is effective for the team. Jurgen Locadia and Mertens, who was making his Eredivisie debut, both scored hat-tricks as PSV fails VVV-Venlo 6-0 on 30 September 2012.
