He signed with the Los Angeles Angels, receiving a $450,000 starting bonus, forgoing his commitment to Southern Miss in 2009.

The Diamondbacks promoted him to the major leagues to open in place of Josh Collmenter, who was moved to the bullpen, on 30 April 2012.
