He beat Igor Sijsling in the first round to record his 1st ATP main-draw victory. Nishioka lost to Bernard Tomic in straight sets in 2015.

Nishioka lost his chance to contest in the round of sixteen when he was beaten by 14th seed Dominic Thiem in 2016.

Then he lost to eventual champion Nick Kyrgios in three sets in 2017. Nishioka earned his 2nd victory at a Grand Slam tournament when he defeated Alex Bolt, at the Australian Open in 2017.

Nishioka defeated American Mackenzie McDonald in the 1st round, of the French Open 2019.

Nishioka had his first win against a top-ten player, beating Kei Nishikori, whom he described as his hero, in the 2nd round., at the 2019 Western and Southern Open.

Nishioka reached the quarterfinals in Lyon Open, beating Ugo Humbert and Gaël Monfils, both in 3 sets in 2021.
