Sexton started his Leinster career in the 2005–06 seasons against the Border Reivers. He was named to the Leinster senior squad on 2 May 2009. In the Leinster club, Sexton played from 2006 to 2013 and scored very excellently. Sexton helped Leinster win the Pro 12 title in the season of 2012-13.
