In 2008, Joe was named to Harlequins Academy. He made his first debut as a Harlequins Academy player in the 2009-2010 seasons.

In the season of 2011, Marler played for Quins and his team defeated Stade Français in the final of the EPCR Challenge Cup.

In the 2014-15 seasons, Marler captained Harlequins, and in 2015 he was selected as the captain of England in the 2015 World Cup.
