Witthoft made her first debut on the WTA Tour in the Swedish Open 2012. She is trained by Torben Beltz and Philip Lang.
Carina defeated Jill Craybas, Akgul Amanmuradova, and Marina Shamayko and was selected to the main draw singles first round. But she lost to Kateryna Bondarenko in this first round.
